Rain Garden at All God's Children MCC

You’re probably asking ‘What the heck is a Rain Garden and why do we want one?’  It is eco-friendly gardening that beautifies neighborhoods and protects our environment with perennial plants that require little maintenance, thrive without fertilizer or pesticide, and enhance the value and attractiveness of our property.

Rain Gardens are designed and planted to capture rain water so it can penetrate into the soil. This reduces the stormwater runoff that takes pollutants from the air, yards and streets and carries them into lakes, rivers and wetlands. The special design and planting capture the runoff and allow the water to drain slowly into the ground and recharge our underground aquifers with filtered, cleaner water.

All God’s Children received a grant from non-profit Metro Blooms for the design, excavation, plants and mulch for a large rain garden in our grassy space west of our parking lot.  All we have to do is have volunteers to work with Metro Bloom supervisors to get the plants in the ground and then maintain the garden.

So if you like the idea of AGC being more green and eco-friendly, come get your hands dirty preserving and beautifying God’s glorious earth on Friday, August 13 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.   Sign up in the narthex or by contacting the church office at 612-824-2673 or email.
