Chancel Choir Director
Overall Purpose: The purpose of All God’s Children Chancel Choir Director is to provide leadership in the area of choral music. The focus shall be to encourage excellence in musical worship, growth in faith, and supportive fellowship of the Chancel Choir, alongside the other music groups of the church.
Accountability: The Chancel Choir Director shall work with and be responsible to the Minister of Music.
Compensation: This currently is a volunteer position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Direct the Chancel Choir during worship on Sunday mornings from September through Pride (end of June) and for other special worship events and holidays.
- Plan and lead weekly rehearsals during the regular choir season.
- Individually engage in at least as much time outside of rehearsal as in rehearsal learning music to be rehearsed, making notations of sections to rehearse, and developing performance techniques to be modeled.
- Plan music in collaboration with the Minister of Music and/or Senior Pastor
- Select music to emphasis the worship themes of the morning and/or the season of the Christian year. Provide music to the accompanists and instrumentalists well in advance for their rehearsal and preparation.
- Purchase new music according to budget resources.
- Seek out and recruit new choir members.
- Work with the Minister of Music to maintain the choral music library, folders, and robes.
Desired Results:
- To develop the Chancel Choir to sing from a variety of musical styles both traditional and contemporary.
- To prepare the Chancel Choir to sing a featured anthem at minimum three out of four weeks a month.
- To present a Choral Musical at least once a year.
- To increase the number of participants in the Chancel Choir.
