The Reign of a Convicted Criminal

The Reign of a Convicted Criminal

Scripture: Luke 23:33-43

The popular image of a monarchy is that of an all-powerful ruler who controls absolutely. God’s righteous good shepherd does not rule or command through fear or force of arms. Rather, the good shepherd is a faithful servant who did nothing wrong but reveals that God’s reign is not found in this earthly order. It confounds the conventional wisdom but God’s kin-dom of joy and justice is revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of a convicted criminal.
